Since 9/11, more than 30% of American travelers now apply for travel insurance. It has been a 10% increase pre-9/11. It is unsettling to think that a disaster must occur in order to frighten people into buying travel insurance. Travel insurance should be treated with the same concern as life insurance even if it only covers for a period of time.  It is only logical that there is greater risk when you travel overseas versus stay at home. Why the hesitation when it comes purchasing travel insurance? If you compare it to insuring something temporal as say buying insurance for a rental car you can see that people place great trust in themselves. They will exercise greater caution and act more responsibly when it’s called for. However, does being more careful reduce the risks of travel?
