Basic Goldfish Varieties – One of the easiest types of goldfish to care for, the common goldfish is the perfect fish for a novice. The common goldfish comes in a wide variety of colors – yellow, orange, red, brown, white, and even black. Just because they’re common doesn’t mean they’re plain! They can be solid colored or have spots. Comets are one of the more delicate looking types of goldfish, with a slender body and thin tail and fins. Comets are usually solid colored in beautiful pale oranges and gold. Fantails are very popular goldfish, with beautiful color variations, rounder bodies than either the common or comet types, and a large, two-part and forked tail fin that looks like a fan. Fantails are often white, sometimes with orange heads. The body, tail, and fins may have gold, orange, and black spots. Veiltails are similar to Fantails in their long tail and fins, and round body, but unlike the Fantails, the Veiltail’s tail is not forked. The bodies are white, and may be spotted and striped with black, gold, and orange. Veiltails that have stripes along their long tail are especially beautiful
