Training A Dog To Play Tracking Games

January 29, 2010 on 3:02 pm | By | In Miscellaneous | Comments Off

Tracking games are great fun for most dogs. For example, you can hide a favorite ball under a bucket and let the dog look for it. Later, you can make it more and more difficult by hiding different balls amongst which your pup has to find its “own” ball.

Another good and exciting game for training a dog with a feeling for detection and a good nose for sniffing things out is played with pieces of cloth hung on a low clothesline, from which your dog has to find one piece of cloth that you have had in your pocket for a while. You should allow the dog to search independently and without help, but praise it lavishly when it has found the right ball or piece of cloth.
