A true four-star observation, Dave. I work with desperately ill people in my profession. For 20 years I’ve helped people living in countries where health and medicine is socialized to come to the USA to receive acceptable cancer care. For the specific reasons you’ve cited, this level of care isn’t available in many countries. The docs who practice in these nations have told me they fear government intimidation if they speak up. This is starting to change. I’ve seen many of the best physicians leave countries where socialized medicine is practiced come here so that their wages are on par with their skills. I know that many of our best docs are now hedging their bets by looking offshore for opportunities–many of them looking to the Arab world, where highly skilled physicians are paid more than here. Whether people like it or not, this is how medicine really works.
