What is a Pell Grant?

Federal Pell Grants are money that are awarded to deserving undergraduate students to help them get through college. With a Pell Grant , you don’t even have to be a full time student, as long as you are a U.S. citizen, below 24 years of age, and comply with the other requirements. Unlike a scholarship, you will not be required to maintain a certain grade point average, which means you just have to pass your subjects.

Even better, if you qualify for a Pell Grant, you will not be required to pay back the money given to you. For this academic year, the Pell Grant is about $5,550. However, it can go lower depending on your financial capacity to pay some of your expenses, including room and board. It is possible to receive the Pell Grant twice in a single year, but it’s all done on a case-by-case basis providing that the student meets the main requirements.
